William W. Thompson, Principal

 

In 1999, Will Thompson co-founded both Thompson | Dorfman Partners, LLC, a Mill Valley, California-based developer of urban multi-family projects, and Education Housing Partners, Inc. (EHP), a California non-profit, public-benefit corporation that focuses exclusively on the development of workforce housing for public school districts and agencies. Mr. Thompson leads the implementation of corporate strategies as well as the firm’s development activities.

From 2015 through 2019, Mr. Thompson also served as Senior Managing Director of the Northern California Division of Trammell Crow Residential (TCR). He co-managed development efforts on over $1 billion of multi-family, mixed-use developments in core Bay Area locations. Mr. Thompson was also with TCR from 1984 through 1995 serving as Northern California Division Partner. During his tenure with TCR, he developed over 5,000 units in 20 projects located in the Sacramento and Bay Area markets.

Mr. Thompson was Executive Vice President of Irvine Apartment Communities from 1997 through 1999, directing all activities of the apartment REIT’s California Division and creating a $1+ billion development pipeline in San Diego, West Los Angeles and Silicon Valley. Previously, Mr. Thompson was with Regis Homes Company, a Southern California-based apartment investment and development firm. As Executive Vice President of Regis, he was responsible for Northern California development activities and apartment investments in four western states. He has also held management positions with Citicorp Real Estate and James W. Rouse Company.

Mr. Thompson obtained his bachelor’s degree from Claremont McKenna College and served four years as an officer in the U.S. Coast Guard before receiving his MBA from Harvard Business School. He is a member of the Urban Land Institute (ULI) and a member of Lambda Alpha International, an honorary land use economics society. He also serves on the board of NatureBridge Yosemite, which provides environmental education for 15,000 school children annually in Yosemite National Park.
